O is for Opium

Opium is a type of narcotic that affects the central nervous system, dulls the senses and induces relaxation or torpor. After a while from inhalation, it induces relaxation and rest, albeit slowly. The user stays in this state perpetually, until the effect wears off. It has been alleged that, once a smoker is HIGH, he is almost unaware of his state of mind or immediate environment, which makes him very vulnerable at that moment.

Forgive me for all this talk about opium, but i would like to extend this same analogy to our personal lives.

What’s your opium? What is it you “inhale”, that makes your sense of reason dull and introduces you to a state of mental insensibility, albeit slowly?

For some, it’s jealousy, some fear, others pride. . . these states are as diverse as our faces, but the truth is that we all know our spots. Some stay in this state for hours, some for days, others for years….while in this state, time is inconsequential. Once we are in this state, we can stay in it for hours, until the effect wears off..but before it does, we become very vulnerable and sometimes lose control.

Have you noticed that, in this state, you may exhibit one or more of the following :

- Shout and keep shouting unnecessarily..even when no one is listening
- Your bodily temperature increases suddenly… you just feel hot on the inside
- Assume that people do NOT like you..including those that DO NOT know you
- Instinctively “know” what every other person in the room is thinking……(when you are not Jesus…)

…well the list is endless….i’ll leave you to come up with the rest…lol…

We all know where it hits us real bad. If you do not know, ask a trusted person to tell you about yours – and promise not to defend yourself, neither should you try to explain, just listen.

I have my opium (..not the drugs o!….for clarification…lol), you have yours…… we all do…. so why don’t we take time to discover what it is we “smoke” to get “high”, and stay away from it? Shall we?

I am glad that my blog helps you reflect on the truly important things. . . I have discovered that, what we need most of the time is someone to challenge our thoughts and lead us in the right direction.
